Windows 10 tablets and Chromebooks are flexible, portable, and affordable options. However, bear in mind that Chromebooks are restricted to Google Chrome OS and tablets may not have the largest screen sizes. We’ve separately looked at the best Chromebooks, with options starting at £249.99.
Tablet 2-in-1s like the Microsoft Surface Pro 7, while ultra-powerful and sleek, will require you to purchase a keyboard attachment separately which can make them pricey (see the top Surface deals and discounts on right now).
It is also important to consider the nature of your job and what you’ll be using the laptop for – it may mean paying extra for more power and capabilities, but you’ll get what you pay for.
If media and graphics is central to your business, you’ll need to choose a laptop with discrete graphics and a good quality laptop screen, or even invest in a second monitor. If you’ll be using the laptop for long hours of work then you’ll need to choose one with a good battery life.
Bear in mind that these aren’t the only things you need to consider, so other than just the quality of the laptop you should also find out about the warranty and if there’s any other services provided after purchase.
Certain manufacturers and retailers tend to offer different services to cover you from loss, theft or damage of your laptops. It’s a good idea to find out what is and isn’t included before purchasing. For instance, Curry’s provides a Care & Repair service from £2.50 a month depending on the price of the laptop. It includes breakdown support and repair for damages.
Retailers like Amazon and Microsoft may have a different service, so you should research for more information. Amazon provides repair warranty for its branded items and some from other manufacturers, where the warranty will be provided by a third-party. You can find out more here.
